He is Sporticus

I'm in love with a children's TV show character...again.

The first time it happened, I was, I think, four--no maybe six. I had to have been a little older because I had a diary and I can remember writing entries about him:

Not the guy on the left. Ew. And no, they weren't lovers. My guy was Butch Cassidy from Hanna Barbera's Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kids. (circa 1973). The dude on the left was his best friend, Harvey who, coincidentally, was voiced by Micky Dolenz. I say "coincidentally" because it was around that same time I was in love with Michael Nesmith from the Monkees, too. (Oh, and another thing...now that I think about it, Butch looks a lot like my ex-husband).

This time, my crush isn't over a cartoon character, but a live action guy named Sportacus on Lazy Town:

Although this Adonis deserves more real estate on my blog than given, I can't seem to find a better photo. But trust me, he's all that and a bag of chips. I'm not the only one who thinks so either. You should get a load of some of the comments I've run across in the Blogosphere. Yep--Sportacus is hot. Funny thing, though, I read the actor's bio on Nick Jr. and in reality...feh...not so hot! Granted, he was a Silver Medalist in something like Aerobics for Iceland (his homeland).

Aside from his yummy physique, Sportacus is teaching Mr. Na (and children around the world) that getting up and being active is important and eating sugary snacks...not so good. So he's perfect in every way.

Lazy Town is pretty bizarre and from the moment I first saw it, I knew it had to have been foreign (it's produced in Iceland). The show is skewed toward 2-5 year-olds yet it has a driving techno soundtrack and the main character, Stephanie, has pink hair. Still, it reminds me of the bizarre crap produced by Sid and Marty Kroft--particularly The Bugaloos and HR Puffinstuff. I would say this was a combination of both, except those shows in the 60s were more about psychadelic head trips and less about promoting a healthy lifestyle.

Honestly, though, Lazy Town is not such a bad little show--providing entertainment for the kid and eye candy for the mom.

Dude - I've got to tell you...! Sporticus is really hot! I haven' read the Nick Jr thing yet, but he is definitely a good reason to hang around the tv. The show is kind of lame, but my girls like it, so I at least can get some entertainment out of it (ha!)

Steve from Blue's Clues used to be my guy. Who wouldn't find him the perfect man? He tells me I'm really smart ALL the time ("Boy, you're really smart - you figured out that clue!), he is good with kids, he hangs on every word I say, he asks my opinion ALL the time - stay-at-home parents, back me up here, am I right??? He would be perfect if he was built like Sporticus...

I used to love David Cassidy a long, long time ago - was that considered a children's show? If so, well then, that was my first.

I agree! And Steve is much more pleasing to the eyes than Joe. Joe's kinda like if Joaquin Phoenix had a twin brother who lacked a cute gene.

I always wanted to be Tracy on the Partridge Family. Our fireplace had a brick ledge I used to climb on and use as a makeshift stage. I'd do the Tracy dance and pat my butt with my tambourine (bend your knees, that's about it). David was more my sister's type. I fell in love with Shaun...he was the definitive male for me.

...Or a smart gene (ha!) He's kind of doofy.

oh girl! I watch Sporticus every morning too. I am so glad that I am not the only one in love with a character that I watch with my children every morning! My little girl(5) thinks he's pretty cute too! Thanks for making my day a little better. You have a good one and God bless you.

Hi there. I love Butch Cassidy as well. I have all 13 eps of the show. But, just so you know the character was WALLY, not Harvey. Whoever told you Harvey was wrong cause his name is Wally.
As you can tell from my name, my favorite charater was Merilee, cause she broke the 'dumb blonde' stereotype. Being a blonde myself, I found it refreshing that a blonde was shown to be smart!
Yeah, I did like the show a lot, it took my a long time to get all 13 eps, but it was SOOO worth it!

Ah, Merilee...thank you for the clarification! It's nice to know there's a fellow vintage cartoon lover out there!

Jul,
Have you seen this on Nick Jr's website:

It's just a headshot, but--it'll give you an idea.

Kinda goofy though, hey?

Hey, mom and daughter tag team duo here! We are just two newly derived Sportacus fans when we came upon Lazytown by flipping aimlessly through channels. Pretty great mistake eh? Needless to say we'll be tuning in on a daily basis from here on out. Our most recent and longest-running crush has been on openly gay director/actor/playwright John Cameron Mitchell (best known for his off-Broadway hit and now hit film, Hedwig and the Angry Inch......NOT A CHILDREN'S SHOW!) We still love lil' Johnny and his character German accent with all our hearts, but this serves as most definate means for "fresh fish".........and when that fish is Icelandic, why not?!?!
I, myself, am a fifteen year old performing arts student/activist....and I must say, swooning over gay guys and fictional characters has been a really fantastic roundabout way of conforming that sisterly bond with mom.

Something about your blog inspired a personal quest. I found a "better" picture of Magnus Scheving (aka, Sporticus). It can be found at http://kidstvmovies.about.com/od/lazytown/a/magnusbio.htm
